Dr. Claire Beneke
Veterinarian
Dr. Claire Beneke joined the Amherst team in May of 2013. Claire grew up in North Vancouver where she spent a lot of her time in the outdoors playing soccer, hiking, snowboarding and horseback riding. Claire has always had a love for animals and since she graduated from kindergarten has known she always wanted to be a veterinarian. Prior to and during her post secondary school years, Claire supplemented her education by working in small and large animal clinics on a part-time basis and during school break.
Claire is very excited about being able to work and live in her native Vancouver. Being close to the ocean and mountains is the best scenario she could think of. Claire attended the University of BC where she majored in agro ecology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with honors. Claire then was accepted to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan where she obtained her degree in Veterinary Medicine. Claire excelled during her school years at WCVM and graduated with great distinction, being awarded the faculty gold medal. This award is given to a graduating student who has shown the highest proficiency in the science and art of veterinary medicine during their 4 years of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.
Professionally, Claire has a special interest in Oncology, Dermatology and Internal Medicine. In her spare time she is busy enjoying the great outdoors. She loves to surf in Oregon and Tofino and at home enjoys hiking, snowboarding and camping. She enjoys these activities with her husband Mike and her rescued dog Kinley who also moved here from Saskatchewan. Her cat Malloy keeps the home front cozy and warm while Claire, Mike and Kinley are away. Malloy is a local who moved to Vancouver from the Chilliwack SPCA.
Claire says, “I am very fortunate to work with such a compassionate, hardworking team of people, and in a clinic that upholds the very highest standards of veterinary medicine.” We are thrilled to have Claire as a member of our team.
